Behind-the-scenes lace tours and public lace making demonstrations at the Smithsonian Institution
The behind-the-scenes lace tours at the SmithsonianÕs National Museum of American History in Washington, DC are again being conducted on a monthly basis. Shown are examples of early 17th through 20th century lace from the Textile Collection. Lace making tools, portraits displaying lace, conditions of the lace makers and other links to social and historical events are also discussed. The free tours are given on the fourth Thursday of every month from 10 am to noon except November, December and Federal Holidays. Reservations are necessary, as a maximum of 8 people can be accommodated. Please call 202-633-3826 to sign up. Lace making demonstrations are conducted by members of the Chesapeake Region Lace Guild in the public area of the American History Museum from 1-2pm after the lace tours.
