    • 4-10 February, 2009, Berkley, California, USA: The first urban retreat sponsored by the Lacis Museum of Lace and Textiles will take place February 4-10, 2009, offering classes in bobbin lace, taught by Louise Colgan and Maria Provencher, needle lace by Nancy Evans, tatted lace by Iris Niebach and knitted lace by Galina Khmeleva, as well as lace history and identification by Nancy Evans. Enrollment will be limited to 36 students.

    • 13-15 February, 2009, Costa Mesa, California, USA: Celebrate PresidentŐs Day Making Lace . . . the 3rd Annual Winter Lace Conference will take place February 13-15, 2009 PresidentŐs Weekend. The 3rd Annual Winter Lace Conference starts Friday evening with a reception and the grand opening of the vending hall. The conference features the following workshops: Lester Laces with Holly Van Sciver, Ôs Gravenmoerse Lace Scarf with Susan Wenzel, Bobbin Lace Jewelry with Radmila Zuman; Tatting with Mimi Dillman; Withof Lace with Susie Johnson; and Milanese with Louise Colgan. Also featured are special pre-conference workshops with Susie Johnson and Holly Van Sciver and an additional day of classes on Monday, February 16.Additionally, you can enjoy uninterrupted shopping time in the vending hall and a special banquet presentation on The Lester Laces with Holly Van Sciver.For more information or a registration brochure, contact Belinda Belisle at belis92645@aol.com.

      July 25- July 31, 2010:
      The Portland Lace Society will host the 57th I.O.L.I. Convention at the Red Lion Hotel in Portland, Oregon.

      July 31-August 6, 2011:
      The Chesapeake Region Lace Guild will host the 58th I.O.L.I. Convention at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Maryland.

    EXHIBITIONS

    • Ongoing: Lace Tours at the Smithsonian. Tours are offered the first Wednesday of every month from 10:00 to noon. Tours are free and open to the public. Reservations are necessary. To register, please call (202) 633-3826.Lace making demonstrations: Watch lace making at the American History Museum, by the new Ipswich house, the first Wednesday of every month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. These are open to the public. No registration is necessary. Tours and demonstrations are conducted by I.O.L.I. members and Smithsonian volunteers, Sheryl DeJong and Karen Thompson from the Chesapeake Region Lace Guild. They show laces from the 15th through the 20th centuries, as well as illustrations of how the lace might have been used. Presentation topics include: working conditions of lace makers, laws prohibiting the importation of lace (resulting in smuggling), and the importance of lace as an industry.
