Reading Lace Textile Exhibition
Take a closer look at the patterns of lace, its important role in the history of the North Shore, and how local author Brunonia Barry, weaved this historic hand craft into her compelling novel, The Lace Reader in an afternoon of fashion, history and literature at Wenham Museum, 132 Main Street, Wenham, on Saturday, May 9. At 1pm, listen as Ms. Barry gives a captivating reading of her popular story and see a demonstration of bobbin lace making given by local artisan Linda Lane. Explore the many kinds of lace; bobbin, crotched, hairpin, knitted, needle and tatted as well as fabrics that are called by that same name in the museumÕs new exhibit Reading Lace featuring samplings from the museumÕs collection of tea gowns, hankies and lace textiles. The reading, exhibit and demonstration explore the different varieties of lace-making, the tools and types of lace and how this cottage industry supported many women and children of the North Shore. You can reserve for purchase a copy of The Lace Reader at the museum shop and register in advance for the book signing and lace demonstration by calling the museum at 978 468-2377. Wenham Museum members will receive a 10% discount on this book. The event is free with paid admission.
The Wenham Museum is a family-friendly of childhood and family life. Visit the museumÕs model train gallery including 9 running layouts, world-renowned doll collection, vintage dollhouses, an interactive family gallery where families can role play and explore reproductions of the museumÕs permanent collections hands-on, the museum's extensive costume and textile collection, antique toys, historic photographs, as well as special exhibits and family programming. The historic Claflin-Richards House c.1690, located on the museumÕs campus offers tours upon request.

Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM. Wenham is located between Beverly and Hamilton on Boston's North Shore. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors, and $5.00 for children ages 2-16. Group rates are available with advance registration.
