IOLI Slide Library

The IOLI Slide Library was originally organized as a memorial to Ione Russell.
Each program consists of a set of slides accompanied by a typescript lecture.

 To order a slide program:

  • Direct your order to the 2nd Vice-President. See list of officers for current name and address.
  • The person requesting the program must be a member of I.O.L.I.
  • Make your request well in advance and indicate a second choice in case your first choice is not available. The slides will be sent to arrive about two weeks before your program. They should be returned as soon as possible after your program. Videotapes will be loaned for two weeks. The time starts upon receipt of the videotape.
  • Slides and videotapes may be sent outside the U.S. only if the recipient is able to make payment in U.S. dollars. Please contact the 2nd Vice President for specific details concerning postage rates. Note that videotapes are VHS format and may not match systems used in other countries.
  • Send a check for $6.50 for media mailing made payable to I.O.L.I Send a second check for $50.00, also made payable to I.O.L.I. for each slide/power point program requested. The $50.00 check will be returned to the borrower when the slide/power point program has been returned undamaged.

Slide Programs

1. "The Development of Lace" A short history of lace from the beginning of the 15th century to the early 20th century. Typescript and 50 slides, 40-50 minutes.
2. "19th Century Handmade Lace" - Details of the different types of handmade laces: needle, bobbin, etc. Typescript and 40 slides, 40 minutes.
3. "19th Century Machine-made Lace" - History of the development of lace machines, and the influence of machine-spun cotton thread upon handmade lace. Typescript and 40 slides, 40 minutes.
4. "The History of Needlelace" - The evolution of needlelace from embroidery in the early 16th century to the early 20th century. Typescript and 39 slides.
5. "Lace in Fashion" - The use of lace in fashion, from the narrow bands of edgings in the early 16th century through the grand ages of the 17th and 18th centuries. Typescript and 44 slides, 40-50 minutes. Also available , with a French typescript.
6. "A Thrill of Fans" - Brief history of antique fans and different laces suitable for use on fan sticks. Typescript and 25 slides, 30-35 minutes.
7. "Analyzing Lace" - Color slides of lace and whitework embroidery. Typescript and 75 slides. 50-60 minutes.
8. "The Berry Lace Collection" - Color slides of lace and whitework embroidery from a collection at Purdue University. Includes needlework and bobbin lace. Typescript and 64 slides.
9. "How To Make Battenberg Lace" Ð Slide presentation and lecture by Laces & Lacemaking - Lace & Crafts, Eunice Sein, Publisher/Designer.
